Class 375

Southeastern

The Class 375s are part of the Bombardier Electrostar family. They were built between 1999 and 2005 and are the first Electrostars to have cab-end gangways and the second class of Electrostars to be built. They were ordered by Connex South Eastern in 1999 to replace the life-expired slam door Mark 1 derived stock which came to an end of their useful lives on mainline services to Kent and East Sussex. The Class 375 is the principal train used by Southeastern, but not the most numerous. All units have also been converted from Tightlock to Dellner couplers, but unlike the Southern fleet (see below), the Southeastern units were not reclassified as 377s. 375/8 and 375/9 units were built with Dellner couplers from new, and a slightly different headlight cluster. The only noticeable difference between them and the Class 377s is that none of the 375s have external CCTV. The Class 375s were delivered in the Connex South Eastern, however the franchise was later taken over by Southeastern Trains (public), which changed only the logo, and then to Southeastern (Govia), the incumbent operator. Govia did not change the livery on the trains for 6 years, but in May 2015, 375301 visited Bombardier Derby for a refurbishment. It recieved a new two-tone blue livery, with stripes denoting First Class and wheelchair areas. It also recieved an interior refurbishment. All Class 375s underwent this process in Derby by the end of April 2018.

South Central

Connex South Central, which shortly after rebranded itself and became Southern Railway, ordered 28 Class 375/3 units for use on Coastway services from Brighton, and mainline services from Victoria and London Bridge. These were ordered due to the same reason as Southeastern's trains. These were also delivered with Tightlock couplers. When these were changed, these were reclassified as Class 377/3s, however no Southeastern units were similarly renumbered.
